Women-Owned Businesses: Empowerment, Community, and a God-Given Talent
I believe that in times we are living, women are moving, doing, and living boldly—proving that we can accomplish almost anything, even without a traditional degree. For me, this journey is deeply personal. I never finished college, and for a long time, I thought that might hold me back. But now, at almost 49, I’m living proof that with determination and a God-given talent, you can rewrite your story.
My Journey to Empowerment
To me, owning a business was on level with earning a degree—something that I never had confidence in being able to achieve. Stepping out and taking a risk is showing me that it’s just not an inspirational phrase - you really can do (almost) anything if you put your mind to it. Learning a new craft and sharing my work has not only empowered me but also reminded me how precious our unique talents are. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunities that platforms like YouTube provide, allowing me to share my story and connect with others who believe in the power of following one’s dreams. It’s been a true blessing to share info, knowledge, and tips to viewers and help them live out their own dreams and goals. Truly is amazing!
Keeping It Local and Real
I’ve been curating a list of local, women-owned businesses that I trust and believe in, based on recommendations from my Facebook friends. There’s something extra special about supporting a business where you know the heart and effort behind every product or service. These aren’t just transactions—they’re connections to dreams, family support, and a community that uplifts one another. I truly believe that!
A Call to Support and Celebrate
I want others to see that when women come together, they transform communities. Whether you’re looking for a unique handmade gift, a delicious treat, or any service that speaks to the heart, I encourage you to check out these local (and not so local) gems. I’m providing links to their websites as a little boost—a way to send some wind in their sails (and maybe even a few extra sales their way!).
Here’s a sneak peek at some of the amazing businesses I’m supporting:
📌 Off Main Art – Nancy Kochli, basket weaver, fiber artist
📌 Gardening on Taylor Mountain – Bobbi Taylor, gardener and dried flower artist
📌 Setting Up House – Shannon Pollard, wedding decor
📌 Glory in Focus – Joanie Jenkins, Photographer
📌 Jessica Tapscott Photography – Jessica Tapscott, Photographer
📌 The Pink Hippie Co. – JC Mason, All-natural skin & hair care
📌 Remnant Studios – Quinn Smith, ceramic jewelry artist
📌 Hair Over Heels – Sierra Ball, Boutique & Salon owner
📌 Tinsel Thyme Press – Nichole Brown, book publisher
📌 Ms Jenny’s Neighborhood – Jenny Hornby, children’s books
📌 Distinguished Engagements – Theresa Ruffo-Swanson, caterer
(I’ll keep updating this list as I discover more incredible women-owned businesses.)
In Gratitude
I’m thankful every day for the God-given talent I can use, for platforms that allow me to share my passion, and for friends and family who cheer me on. It’s these connections that remind me that we can all live out our dreams and support one another along the way.
Let’s celebrate these bold women—each of us moving forward, doing what we love, and showing the world that a degree isn’t the only measure of success.
